Keeping yourself on a genuinely even keel is the joyous science. But to practice this is the hardest work in life we are called upon to do. This article is about how to do that even in the worst situations. Without matter to how hard it is, we all must choose to feel good despite all appearances to situations being the contrary to good. Although situations are not always seemingly controllable, our feelings and attitudes about them are most definitely controllable. That is what this article is essentially about.
"The consciousness of control" was what I was originally going to title this article, but that is too vague and not appealing to the mind or spirit enough for me in a sense, "the joyous science" fit better, especially since controlling feelings and reactions in this way comes down to a sort of science of control of yourself and joy creation. Reasonably and realistically then, positive control of yourself, by yourself is a joyous science. Negative and destructive defaults are not scientific, but destructively emotional, look at the average alcoholic or drug addict as a good example of what I am writing about here. There is not a question or illogical reality about it, though, at times positive control of yourself is hard work, but necessary if you want to fully benefit yourself.
So, a bad situation appears to be a bad situation, but if you genuinely and persistently work through the storm and look for the lesson in it that will cause future good instead of fully quitting now while it is bad, future good can be created out of those bad things. Even the great success writer Napoleon Hill said, "Every obstacle and adversity has the seed or equivalent benefit waiting or hiding in it." When you understand this, it may take some effort and persistence, but, nothing is impossible even after many tries. Some say practice makes perfect, I say persistence makes genuinely perfect when you really want something and want it genuinely badly. This is the essence for me of the joyous science: Persistence that is consistent, not foolishly repetitive, but consistently creative until success is achieved.
Sure, I could spell out some more definition that seems more complicated. But I can only say live the joyous science yourself until you get it right. I know I will. Life and existence only have the meaning you give it with your consciousness. The journey of a thousand miles may start with one step, but, to achieve, we must not only believe, but control ourselves right down to our feelings about all matters. We are what we make ourselves all the time.
